Inclusive Teaching in the World Language Classroom
RUBilingual organized a series of workshops focused on Inclusive Teaching in the World Language Classroom. The workshops were designed as an initiative to foster dialogue and community among the graduate student/teaching assistant population at Rutgers University
RUBilingual collaborates with Metáfora in hosting
an event on Code-Switching in Bilingual Literature
With the occasion of Hispanic Heritage Month, RUBilingual collaborated with Metáfora in organizing an event on Code-Switching in Bilingual Literature. Participants learned about code-switching and translanguaging practices, about language choice in the context of bilingual expression, and created their own bilingual literary pieces.

RUBilingual members invited to speak
at Greater Brunswick Charter School
Parent workshop about the importance of bilingualism and language maintenance at Greater Brunswick Charter School in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
On November 2019, RUBilingual members were invited to give a presentation to parents of Spanish speaking children on the benefits of bilingualism and the importance of language maintenance. It was an interactive workshop in which parents rotated through different stations to discuss different aspects of bilingualism. Parents asked lots of questions and we shared some ideas on how to maintain and promote second language learning and use. The audience included parents of heritage speakers and parents of second language learners.

at the Red Bank Middle School
On September 18, 2018, RUBilingual members invited to Red Bank Middle School to give assembly on bilingualism. Over 200+ students attended and asked insightful questions on language acquisition and maintenance. Big thanks to Abril Jiménez, Esther Hur, and Nicole Rodríguez for leading the conversation!
Parent workshop on bilingualism Primary School, Red Bank, NJ
RUBilingual invited to give a presentation to Spanish speaking parents of Pre-K on the benefits of bilingualism and the importance to start teaching the native language at home. We discussed with parents concerns about literacy and shared ideas in how to maintain the heritage language.
Session on child bilingualism and family language socialization during Red Bank SIOP teacher training
RUBilingual member, Benjamin Kinsella, invited to speak to teachers at Red Bank Middle School who were attending SIOP training. The day's topic focused on language and cultural, with an introduction to child bilingualism and language socialization practices in the home and school. The presentation generated a rich conversation on language maintenance and bilingual development.
Parent workshop on bilingualism, Redshaw Elementary, New Brunswick, NJ
RUBilingual invited to give workshop to Spanish-speaking parents and high school students from New Brunswick High School on the benefits of bilingualism. Great Q&A afterwards, too!
RUBilingual invited to take part in panel discussion with Rutgers "Spanish and Community Engagement" course
RUBilingual director, Benjamin Kinsella, was invited as a panel speaker on community engagement to speak with students enrolled in Dr. Schwartz's course, "Spanish and Community Engagement". Benjamin spoke alongside Evelyn Rosa, the director of Middlesex Community College- New Brunswick, and Dr. Damian Suarez, a medical doctor in the New Brunswick Hispanic community. The course on community engagement was also recently spotlighted by Rutgers Today.

RUBilingual Participates in Knollwood Elementary's Multicultural Night
Student workshop @ Redshaw Elementary (New Brunswick, NJ)
On May 5th, 2016 RUBilingual was invited to provide a student workshop on the benefits of bilingualism at Redshaw Elementary. Two of our founding members, Crystal Marull and Patricia González Darriba, led a group of twenty students in discussing the importance of speaking in two languages. Great job!
Interpreting at Parent-Teacher Conferences @ Red Bank Primary (Red Bank, NJ)
On February 11th, 2016, RUBilingual showed their appreciation to Red Bank's Middle School by acting as interpreters at their parent-teacher conferences. The participation of several Rutgers undergraduate volunteers in the event strengthened the connections between the association and the university's student body.

On November 11th, 2015, RUBilingual presented at Red Bank Primary as a part of a series of workshops on Bi/Multilingualism specifically addressed for parents. Our representatives emphasized the importance of reinforcing the use of the minority language at home, and answered questions from a very receptive audience.
Workshop for parents @ Bartle Elementary (Highland Park, NJ)
RUBilingual celebrated Cinco de Mayo (2015) in the best way possible: by organizing a workshop for parents and children @ Bartle Elementary in Highland Park. Children had a great time playing games focused on their multilingual backgrounds and parents got to learn more about the importance of maintaining the minority language and some basic expectations of typical language development!
RUbilingual helping out at Red Bank Primary
This past Tuesday (April 21st, 2015, 6:00 pm), three of our members visited Red Bank Primary to give out information about the importance of home language maintenance and bilingualism! This collaboration is connected to the amazing work of one of our founding members, Benjamin Kinsella, who is currently working on a project on home language maintenance and L1 support in various elementary schools in New Jersey.
RUBilingual to meet Professor Sorace
We are pleased to announce that RUBilingual's founding members will meet with Professor Antonella Sorace, founding director of Bilingualism Matters (http://www.bilingualism-matters.org.uk//) and Professor of Developmental Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh on September 29th, 2015!
